I can’t stop thinking about my visit last weekend to Lake Bruin with my dear friend Kate Seal. We were guests of her stepsister Becky Vizard, of @bvizdesign renown. It was a treat to get a personal tour of her design studio, bursting with trims, silks and vestments, ready to become heirloom pillows and textiles. Everything about Locustland, the homestead she and her husband Michael have built, was beautifully curated, but never forced or too precious. I loved every little detailed collection and hearing the fun stories of how it all came together. I can’t wait to go back to this little slice of heaven! #doinbruin #bvizdesign #lakebruin

Honoring the integrity of the original architecture, most still intact, was the primary goal of this project. Custom drapery, antique rugs, and bespoke furniture were all added to soften the rustic features of the 1830’s era home.

Indian cottons, silk taffeta and Heriz rugs complement the Creole style of the house. The marsh grass leaves of the custom chandelier recall the fields of sugarcane that surround the home.
The owner’s original artwork was the color inspiration for the textiles and rugs in the former carriage house.

Creating the ultimate cozy sanctuary - This bedroom transformation features a stunning rug with a unique color combination and design, perfectly complementing the custom-designed bed and the luxurious fabrics.

We darkened the room with Relaxed Khaki and added a complex colored grass cloth accent wall to highlight the rich plums and blues of the drapery. Gold details in the bed and pagoda lamps add the perfect touch of elegance, while the natural textures bring everything together in this relaxing retreat.

We created this library sitting room from an underutilized dining room off the foyer, designing a cozy space with no distractions. This was achieved with antique doors, unlacquered brass fittings, and @sherwinwilliams “Library Pewter” paint for walls and casework.

We chose unlacquered brass hardware, which is set off by the color of the millwork, so it would darken and patina over time, giving the room a subtle glow.

To dress up the space, a @visualcomfort chandelier was added to bring the lighting level down to a more intimate level. Floor lamps and hide covered ottomans in front of leather chairs complete the relaxed but elegant look. To add another layer of interest to the shelving we covered the back of the unit with a shagreen wall covering by @fabricut. The antique rug injects old world elegance.
